Divorce-I STILL Hate Him!

From my title, you can tell what my situation was! I got divorced 3 years ago, and lucky me, the court found I was responsible for the debts incurred, because of my good for nothing ex. 15,000 in debt! I can't believe that such a thing could happen. Someone else can run up bills in other's name, and the poor person doesn't know about it. Shame on those who do that! Now I'm stuck with that debt! How unfair! Trying to work through it with the creditors, but to no avail. Looks like I'll have to figure it out! Is there possibly another way?

The bad news is that if the judge ruled you have to pay it and you don't then you could be held in contempt.  If the debt is in both names I would give your ex's info to the creditors so your ex can have the fun of hearing from them too.  Even though the court ruled you were responsible your ex may still be liable for the debt as well.  If the accounts are just in your name then I would suggest you look into a settlement program, at least that way you'll only end up paying part of it.

I'm not sure what you're working situations were but you probably assumed the debt because your spouse didn't work during the time you were married, if that's the case then you're liable for the debt!  Not working and raising kids is a sacrifice of income on your spouses part.  Stop whining about it, the debt is yours.
